Thread Binge

The friends who drop by my blog once in a while know that I'm an addict - a CQ addict. Did you know that being a CQ Addict entails lots of other addictions, as well? You've seen some of my button binges, fabric binges, and today I'm showing a thread binge!

Here is a sampler I won on eBay of Kreinik Silk in Antique

Stash Enhancement

Over the last week or so, I've been really busy working longer than usual hours, and haven't had a lot of time for answering list group messages or blogging. Trying to do a little catch up today...

Found a package of 30 ink jet printing silk sheets at a very reasonable price!

Also got a couple of women images' CDs from Ephemeraplus to use for those silk sheets.

Some new threads I got in the mail from eBay

"Original: China Quality: 100% Silk with intense sheen Length: 20m per shein,20 skeins, about 400m.Colors:Rainbow of color." Chinese Art Online.

As you can see from the scan, these are a finer silk than I typically use, but they're very pretty, light, and cover well with two strands. You can see a little of the thread in use on my Fall Swap block.

"Silk Embroidery Floss Thread
10 skeins of pure silk floss. Rainbow of colors, no duplcate. This beautiful thread is similar to Soie Platte with intense sheen. 23m per skein, not the 5m or 8m small skein you buy in the store."
Little Cheribs Online.
I haven't tried these yet, but they appear to be even a little finer than the previous.

I also got a couple more skeins of the cotton from YarnPlayer on Etsy.com
"Hand dyed size 50 6-cord cotton crochet thread with color variation from red, pink, peach, yellow, light yellow-green,and bright green. I am calling this batch "Rhubarb Crisp". The base thread is DMC Cordonnet Special. I used Procion MX dyes to hand paint it. This is a lovely thread for tatting or other lace work."

Victorian Colors

What do you consider Victorian colors?

I took some size 20, white DMC thread and put it in with all my other dying experiments last week. I put about 10 yards in the coffee and two 10 yard pieces in the rose water. When I wound them on paper this evening, I thought, this must be why the old crazy quilts we see are in such lovely, muted colors - their dying products for their threads. I only imagine that they had primarily white to work with, so they probably used their natural resources to have different colors. I can hardly wait until fall to try those deep, purple berries that grow on the weed that grows in the Wisteria bush.

Threads

A few days ago someone mentioned that The Needle Case . Com was having a sale... and who am I to miss a sale? They came in the mail today. I don't think I've had any DMC size 12 before, so these are the shades I selected to try, and it is a nice feeling thread and nice colors, too.

While I was button searching on Etsy, I found these threads, too. They are mostly size 70, and they were from someones mother and aunt, so they're older - and different colors than I've seen in the stores. Notice the little holder in the left of the pic. The thread inside was mine, but just wanted to see if it would fit. It's to hold the thread while in use so it won't tangle or get dirty. I had never seen one made specifically for that purpose. The ones in the store are primarily for knitting thread, big, bulky, and rather expensive! I love this tiny one!

Sassa Lynne Threads

Susan from CQ for Fun placed an order for a group of us for Sassa Lynne threads, and they came along today in the box with my SoH. These are such sumptuous colors! They remind me of sorbet... Can't wait to try them out!

Susan always does a great job with her group buys - she cut the fibers, then printed a label for each of them so we would know exactly what we're using. Above and beyond the call of duty, in my opinion! Thank you, Susan for doing these for us!
