Morning Glories
It has been so spring like these past few days, I've been working outside when the chance was there. Guess that made we want to do spring inside as well. I found this design by Nell Corns of "Morning Blossoms" that were so pretty I couldn't resist giving them a try. 10

Tatted Basket
I made a few adjustments to the basket pattern, and it is coming along. I wanted a tatted basket that I could add SRE or embroidered flowers to use for CQ. 8

Tatted Baskets
I finally got the basket tatted - not the best, but better than before! Pink flowers with tan basket.
Yellow flowers in brown basket.

Tatting 25 Motifs Challenge
I have signed up for the 25 Tatted Motifs Challenge. I listed the bell, tree, swans, and snowflake as ones already done. So by December of 2007 there will need to be 21 more!

Playing with Tatting
I tried the Christmas tree again, and it does look a little better to me.
Was attempting another that went awry, so I was about to toss it, then thought - it COULD be used as a sleigh in the right place??
These are some small practice flowers from the Tatting Collage book.

Tatting Trees
Last night and today I've finally worked out the tatted tree. I still need to work on consistent tension, but after another time or two perhaps it will be better?? Pink tree, you say! Well, it is the one I had the most.

Tatting Buttons
Today I've been practicing with tatting on buttons. Cute little motifis, but more practice will be better. It's fun.

Tatting Fans
I've spent this evening playing with a pattern for tatted fans. This is one of my favorites.
I extended the handle, and it twisted. I'll press it later.
I also made one using a heavier thread for the handle, and that looks better to me as well.

Tatted Swans
Found a pattern for tatted swans that I thought were cute. They turned out pretty well - simple, small, and sweet.

Needle Tatting
I've been needle tatting for about six months. It is easier for me than shuttle tatting, and the results are just as good for my purposes.
The best source for beginning instructions I have found are here Handy Hands Tatting. Barbara Foster's book is excellent.
Someone has shared this as a good site for instructions, Needle Tatting Two.
I was asked what kind of needles to use, so I tried to get a picture of them. They aren't the greatest, but the best I could do. Needles come in several sizes. My opinion is to go ahead and get the set - of differing sizes. My first set came from Georgia Seitz shop, but you may find them at Michael's or Hobby Lobby. Start with the larger ones with bigger thread so that you can see the stitches you're making to compare with examples.
The threaded needle is next to smallest I have, and it is threaded with size 12 Finca cotton. You will notice that the smaller ones are bent - I have a tight grip! The item on the far right is a regular crochet hook. The item at the top is a size 14 short hook for pulling joins through picots.
Iris Susan gave me support and lots of links when I first started.

June Tatting Guild
Yesterday was the monthly meeting of the Piedmont Tatters. I saw a couple of the girls I hung out with at the conference. Reit from the Netherlands is still here in the US, and she taught a Celtic design, but it wasn't clicking for me - the needle tatter, so I worked on making the beaded clippie. It's coming along, but slowly. The instructions I have are not working for me, so with some major improvisation ... well, see for yourself... not a great picture, but you get the idea.
From the guild meeting, I went to Jonathan's and from there we went to eat Chinese then to see X-Men The Final Stand. First time I'd seen Columbiania Mall - quite nice!! It was good to spend time with him.
When I got back home needed a little 'settle down' time, so I made a little purple trim...

Tat Days Conference
I went to the Piedmont Tatters' HOTT Conference (Hats off to Tatters) June 2-3, 2006, and it was a great experience.
This picture is a two-part medallion that will enclose a large sequin - only got this far in one of the classes, but I'll get around to finishing it one day.
Medallions,

Tatting Guild
I went to the Palmetto Tatters' guild meeting on Saturday in Columbia. Officers for the next year were voted in, and we made preparations for the HOTT - Hats Off to Tatters - Convention that will be on June 2-3, 2006, at Columbia International University. Most of the women are nice and friendly, and they DO love sweets! One of the women brought chocolate from Switzerland to share - yumm-y!! One of the women - the treasurer- comes from NC, and one comes from around Charleston!
I'm afraid my tatting is not up to par with the others in the guild, as these are shuttle tatters and my needle almost gets snubbed; however, I am a beginner. I'm going there to learn - not to be discouraged. My feeling is that I need to practice getting the stitches tight and find direction! Hope was working with me before the 'folder compilation' began. She had made hat motifs that were cute as could be. Sharen made a butterfly while we were waiting that was as tight as a drum - and beautiful.
